Japanese designer Masahiko Maruyama creates clothes for men and women that are simple, artistic, and detailed. Upon graduation from the Vantan Design Institute in 1989, Maruyama went on to become a women's wear designer for Super Lovers. In 1996, he founded Nude and debuted his first women's collection. After the success of his women's wear, in 2002 Maruyama introduced a men's collection to the line. According to the designer, Nude is not literally skin bare, but "an unclothed human figure, and artistic expression, but does not mean to expose." The concept behind the line is to produce garments that are loved for high quality and function, not brand name. In keeping with this, Maruyama does not include his name or company logo on garments, instead labels each tag with a distinctive number.
